12/05/2017 - KSN Presents PUSPANITA's Donations In Labuan

LABUAN, May 12 -- Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa (pix) today presented a total of RM101,400 in donations from the National Association of Wives of Civil Servants and Women Civil Servants (Puspanita) to several centres for disability and the Labuan Hospital.

He handed over a cheque for RM51,400 to the Labuan Autism Association for administrative expenditure and learning facilities; RM45,000 to the Labuan Hospital ; RM3,000 to Pusat Dalam Komuniti (People with Disabilities) and RM2,000 to Pusat Dalam Komuniti (PWD) Mutiara.

Ali, who is also Puspanita advisor, also presented contributions of RM600 each to three government retirees, during the Puspanita Welfare Visit Programme here.

He also announced the approval of some funds for the purchase of a van for the Labuan Autism Association at a cost of over RM100,000.

Ali also said that the government was considering an application from the Labuan International Campus of Universiti Malaysia Sabah for government scholarships to be offered to teachers to pursue studies on the teaching of people with disabilities.

"We will have to look at the number that can be considered as UMS is applying for 30 scholarships. We will have to refer to the Public Service Department," he said.

Ali commended the Labuan Autism Association for its commitment in ensuring that autistic children received a proper education.

"The government will assist the efforts of any centre for disability," he said, adding that the government must be advised as to the assistance that could be channelled.
